Obituary of Georgia E. McConnon
Georgia E. McConnon, 103, of Great Kills, Staten Island, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. Born February 18, 1916 the middle child to Peter and Frieda McConnon.
Georgia attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island where she graduated in 1933. She then went on to Baker's Business School. Her first job was at the Ideal Financing Company of Boston on Staten Island. Next she worked at the Puritan Petroleum Corporation as office manager and bookkeeper. Her last job was from 1964 to 1993 as a supervisor for the NY State DMV.
Georgia's father was an Irish immigrant who came to the U.S. as a young boy. She was always proud of her Irish heritage. She went on many cruises with her sister, traveled to Europe and eventually would visit the house where her father was born in Ireland. Georgia was a devout Catholic and attended nine o'clock mass every morning at St. Patrick's Church on Staten Island. She was also a life member of the Columbiettes. Georgia was a very generous person and contributed to many charities.
She was predeceased by her older sister Virginia and her younger brother Peter Jr. For the last year due to failing health she came to live with her cousins Georgia and Frank Spizzirri of Pequannock, NJ. She is survived by many cousins both here and in Ireland.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, April 23 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains.
Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island at 12:30pm with Msgr. Jeff and Fr. Victor. All St. Patrick's Parishioners are welcome.
